What is Starlink?

Starlink is a fast and easy internet solution for those who live a bit off the beaten path. The typical Starlink kit contains a dish which should be mounted somewhere high up typically on your roof, a modem/router which will provide you with a wifi signal, and a cable to connect the dish to the modem/router. While not as fast as a direct fiber connection, Starlink has much better coverage and is often the best available solution for those not off of main city roads. Fiber can offer speeds as fast as 1000 Mbps which is perfect for large businesses with many computers and devices accessing the internet at once, but is far more than the average home will ever be able to use. Starlink offers speeds from 25 to 150 Mbps with most users experiencing speeds over 100 Mbps. These speeds are still a bit faster than most households will use, providing a buffer that will keep loading to a minimum even at busy times of day. Connection speeds can vary depending on how well your dish is able to see the sky. If your dish is surrounded by trees for example, you may experience slower speeds than other users. Most dishes (depending on your location) need to have a clear view of the sky to the North. If you are thinking about getting Starlink service but are not sure if it will be a good option for you because of tree coverage or any other problems Starlink provides a phone app that you can use to see what kind connection you would get at your home.

What would a Starlink install look like for me?

Generally speaking our Starlink installs take about a full day for complete setup, depending on many factors such as:

  • Location
    • How far you are from us
    • What condition your road is in
    • Where your dish will be located
  • Weather
    • Rain or storms
    • Snow
  • Cable Run
    • Distance from dish to modem
    • outside/inside/attic
